"FINDING OUR RETIREMENT DREAM HOME"

It took a couple of years of research for us to find the place where Janet and I wanted to retire. We’re both native New Englanders but spent the last 22 years in California. We loved New England but the cold winters were a concern. Driving down the I-40 in NC, I took a impromptu side trip into Kernersville and discovered that the Piedmont Triad area of NC had everything we wanted; four seasons without the bitter cold of New England, plenty of shopping, medical facilities and things to keep us busy and active.

Now all we had to do was find a home. We began to look for a realtor but were concerned that we could not be well represented by an agent or agency that was also representing sellers to get the highest possible price for a home. Then one day I was browsing the internet and discovered the “National Association of Exclusive Buyer Agents” (NAEBA). After reading the NAEBA “Standards of Practice” and the “Code of Ethics” I knew this was the way we wanted to go. Using the NAEBA Web site (NAEBA.org), we found an exclusive buyer’s agent in Kernersville and have had one of the most enjoyable home finding experiences imaginable.

From the very beginning, Melinda Styers of “Advocates For Homebuyers” in Kernersville made it clear that our best interest was her only concern. Melinda clearly explained her role as an exclusive buyer’s agent and what we could expect from her. She gave us a lot of information about the area, which was extremely helpful since we are definitely new comers to both NC and the Piedmont Triad.

When we arrived at the office on our first day of looking at homes, Melinda had already planned the day. Even though we were scheduled to view many homes, the day was planned so that Melinda could show us around the various towns, shopping centers (which Janet sure appreciated) and other places of interest. We can actually say that although it was a long day, we had a lot of fun and never felt rushed. Along with Melinda, Horace Flowers of “Advocates For Homebuyers” pointed out both the positive and the negative aspects of the homes and the areas we looked at. Not only did they double check that the asking prices were reasonable, they also went the extra mile and checked for zoning proposals or restrictions that might affect the home values or desirability of the area. We were given all the information we needed to make a good home buying decision.

On the second day of looking, we found our home and made an offer. Then we flew back to California. We were concerned about how we were going to be able to get the purchase completed from a distance of 2500 miles. It turned out not to be a problem with Melinda handling a lot of the details and guiding us through the process.

The move has been completed and we’re enjoying our new home. I gladly and confidently recommend “Advocates For Homebuyers” to anyone looking for a home in the Piedmont Triad area of NC.
